New York Yankees Roster Changes Ahead of Crucial Series

In a pivotal moment for the New York Yankees, the team has announced several significant roster changes as they prepare for a crucial three-game series against the Kansas City Royals at Yankee Stadium. The news comes as the Yankees are looking to solidify their lineup amidst various injuries and call-ups.

Injury Woes for DJ LeMahieu

DJ LeMahieu, a staple in the Yankees' lineup, has been placed on the 10-day injured list due to a persistent right hip impingement. This injury has been bothering LeMahieu for weeks, as confirmed by Yankees manager Aaron Boone. "It's been something that's been kind of lingering on him the last couple of weeks. He's been getting treatment on it. It's kind of better some days, worse the others," Boone noted. LeMahieu's stats reflect the struggle, as he has batted a modest .204 with two homers and 26 RBIs in 67 games this season.

LeMahieu's injury troubles began earlier in the season when he missed the first 55 games due to a fracture in his right foot. Last season, he batted .243 with 15 homers and 44 RBIs over 136 games, indicating a considerable drop in performance this year.

Jasson Domínguez Called Up

In a move that has excited many fans, the Yankees have recalled their top prospect, Jasson Domínguez, from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. The 20-year-old Domínguez has shown immense promise, batting .314 with 11 homers and 35 RBIs in 58 games across three minor league levels this season.

Domínguez, who had been sidelined by an oblique injury on June 15 and returned on July 26, continued to impress upon his return. He batted .309 with seven homers and 25 RBIs during his stint with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Boone expressed his admiration for the young prospect, saying, "I think you know my thoughts on him. I've been a huge fan ever since I met him. Just love his makeup, his talent and he's earned this opportunity."

Domínguez is expected to make his major league debut in center field and bat sixth, but he will also see some time in left field. His versatility and recent form have made him an exciting addition to the Yankees roster. Boone added, "Like I said on Sept. 1 when we didn't initially recall Jasson, he's in the conversation every single day. I think as much as anything, it's just continuing to build the momentum he's built here over the last few weeks, where we feel like, especially the last couple of weeks, really starting to be in the peak of the season and play at a high level."

Changes in the Bullpen

The Yankees have also made adjustments to their bullpen, designating reliever Anthony Misiewicz for assignment. Misiewicz appeared in just one game for New York this season. However, his performance at Triple-A was noteworthy, boasting a 3-2 record and a 3.33 ERA across 44 appearances for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. This move signifies a strategic shuffle as the Yankees aim to optimize their pitching lineup.

Jon Berti Returns

Adding to the flurry of roster changes, the Yankees have activated Jon Berti from the injured list. Berti missed a substantial portion of the season —90 games— due to a left calf strain. Before his injury, Berti was an effective contributor, hitting .273 with one homer and six RBIs in 17 games. His return adds depth and experience to the Yankees' infield.

Berti, who was acquired in a spring training trade with the Miami Marlins, experienced a setback on May 24 in San Diego when he collapsed in pain a few steps out of the batter's box. Now, his return is a welcome relief for a Yankees team that has been plagued by injuries.

These roster changes mark a critical juncture for the Yankees as they seek to regain their footing and make a strong push in the remaining season. With a blend of seasoned veterans and promising young talent, the team hopes to navigate through the challenges posed by injuries and emerge stronger for the battles ahead.
