Jason Wright to Transition to Senior Adviser Role After 2024 Season

After guiding the Washington Commanders through a transformative period marked by rebranding and ownership changes, Jason Wright has announced he will step down from his current role following the 2024 season. Wright will transition to a new position as a senior adviser, focusing his efforts on completing the Commanders' new stadium deal.

"Given all those accomplishments, that's why I am proud to announce I will remain with the team throughout the 2024-2025 season, with the same responsibilities. In particular, I look forward to helping the organization complete its new stadium deal," Wright stated.

Wright took on the presidency of the team in 2020, a notably turbulent era when the franchise was still known as the Washington Football Team. His leadership marked a period of significant change, including the pivotal rebranding to the Washington Commanders in 2022. Under Wright's guidance, the team not only changed its name but also navigated the complexities of a change in ownership from Dan Snyder to Josh Harris.

Reflecting on his tenure, Wright expressed pride in his accomplishments and the work done by his team. "I am incredibly proud of what we have accomplished over the past four years. Together with an amazing team of professionals, we have taken this franchise through a period of immense challenge and uncertainty and have transformed it. We've set the table for an incredibly bright future under Josh's leadership. Over just the past year, we've welcomed record numbers of fans back into our building, made meaningful improvements to the fan experience, re-engaged with corporate partners, and reconnected with the community. Most importantly, we re-established a culture of respect in this organization."

Wright broke new ground by becoming the first Black president of an NFL team and is one of only four former players to hold this prestigious position. This unique perspective, coupled with his business acumen, has been integral to the team's resurgence. As he prepares to step into his new role, Wright is also a finalist for the presidency of the Green Bay Packers, indicating his potential continuous influence within the league.

Throughout his tenure, Wright has been committed to fostering a positive organizational culture and enhancing fan engagement. His efforts have not gone unnoticed, with increased attendance and meaningful partnerships signaling the Commanders' improved standing both within the league and the broader community.

As the Commanders look forward to another season under his stewardship, Wright remains focused on ensuring the successful completion of the new stadium deal—a project that is crucial for the team's future. His transition to senior adviser will allow him to concentrate on this significant venture while paving the way for new leadership to continue the momentum he has built.

Wright commented on his decision to explore new opportunities, saying, "This feels like the right moment for me to explore my next leadership opportunity. I'm extremely grateful to my Commanders colleagues, our fans, and this community for all that we have accomplished these past four years, and am looking forward to the start of a very successful season for the Burgundy and Gold."

Jason Wright's impact on the Washington Commanders has been profound, positioning the team for sustained success and setting an example in leadership through turbulent times. With his transition to a senior advisory role, the organization is poised to capitalize on his efforts, ensuring that the Commanders' future is as promising as their recent past.
